Eurovision

Didn't really get drawn into the Eurovision thing as much as I have in previous years this weekend - in fact I found the semi-finals pretty boring and only watched a little of them. I committed to the finals last night though, and sat through almost all of the 25 songs and the very tedious voting process to see that Germany won. And a very well deserved win it was too. A great fun song and very Eurovision. Honourable mentions must also go to Ukraine, Armenia, Israel and Greece. Did you watch it?

Miniscule

I must say that my interests in life have always been firmly focussed on the micro rather than the macro, so this animated series which I have just discovered - Miniscule - fits my bill perfectly. It's on tv here at the moment and my parents have been telling me I must watch it but because it is apparently so miniscule the tv guide doesn't even list it and I keep missing it. I have just now been delighted to find quite a few episodes of it on You Tube.

Sundays in Autumn

A beautiful autumnal day yesterday enjoyed with a beautiful walk, about an hour from home. Just the right mix of gentle sunshine and a cool, refreshing breeze.

Come into the garden

Scenes from my beloved backyard. Though it's a little rambling and overgrown, it brings me a lot of peace. You can still see where the hail storm hammered the plastic covering over our back steps (behind Athena). I'm not sure if the little red mask is a cheerful sprite or a demon, but he guards our sleep-out (shed) nonetheless. The rosemary never seems to die out, and neither do the geraniums.

Enjoy your weekend.

Out walking

We have had some lovely walks of late - enjoying the beautiful, refreshing green; seeking out the hidden front-doors in tree trunks of wood nymphs and listening to the stillness of the bush which somehow hums with busyness at the same time.

These boots are made for walkin'

Things that happen when:

Scandinavian Skies

Image from www.swedishdocuments.com

Winter is certainly on its way here. Nights are just plain cold now and the days are mostly overcast. Or, like today, the skies are eerily bright with a light that brings a striking whiteness into the house. It reminds of what I think of as 'Scandinavian light' - that is, the natural light that I have seen in films from that region. Harsh, bleak but somehow pure and inviting at the same time. The grey clouds are gathering now and we're due for more rain but my little window of white has transported me for just a moment or two.

Friday musings

Has anyone read this book? I have just borrowed it from the local library having eyed it off in bookstores for some time and been too skin-flinty to buy it. I fancy myself as something of a writer (!) but I want to do more and I find myself coming up against "but I don't feel like writing anything today" and "I've got nothing to say", so I figure I may need to approach matters from another angle. First tip she gives is writing three pages on anything every morning. Should be easy enough...!

Just been for my deep tissue massage at the physiotherapist's. To cut a long story short - ow. Ow, ow, ow, ow. How can my back still be so sore after four months? The masseuse suggested I am not doing enough "home care" in between massages and so she recommends long, hot baths. Sounds awful :)
Happy weekend to you.

A case of the sniffles

Awww...image from www.madaboutcats.com

I like it when it gets cooler, I said. Summer's too hot, I said. Winter's a good time to get all snuggly, I said. You were there - you heard me say it. But I forgot how annoying my sinuses are once it starts to cool down. I am currently using two different types of nasal spray and the occassional antihistamine tablet but still I sneeze and sneeze...and sneeze. And then the headaches start :(

Bodecea has recently suggested using a saline solution to clean out the nose which has been great (thank you) and so I'm wondering if anyone else has some other good suggestions.

Yours in sniffles,
Feronia
